Redis and running a network
Redis provides optional cross-server messaging. Player data stays in MySQL or MongoDB, and syncs between servers via polling even when Redis is off.
| Setup | Storage | Redis | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standalone | file |
off | Everything local |
| Shared network | mysql or mongodb |
off | Shared data, local staff chat |
| Shared network | mysql or mongodb |
on | Shared data and cross-server staff messaging |
For networks, configure the same shared database, a unique server.name on each server, and the same redis.channel-prefix where Redis is enabled. Run the same Hydrogen release across servers.
Redis with file storage is not supported. Redis downtime may prevent delivery of staff chat, while shared-storage polling continues. Network configuration changes require a full server restart.
